The thing that I love most about my job is that no two couples (no two people for that matter) are ever the same. When I show up to an engagement session I never know what exactly to expect, but I’m always prepared to try something a little new if I think it will better suit my clients. Laura and Nate were definitely an unique couple, and so their engagement session had to be as well!
We met up at a laundromat (well laundromat/coffee shop to be exact) which I thought could be a fun and out of the ordinary spot, and then moved on to the Santa Monica airport, where there are lots of rusty old walls and other funky spots to shoot. Laura and Nate described their taste to me as “quirky” and I think that these images do a good job of showing off that side of them!
I normally don’t post engagement sessions this soon after I shoot them, but I’m heading out of town on Saturday and wanted to make sure I got these up before I left! Here are a couple of my favorites….

What good is having a session in a laundromat if you’re not going to ride around in laundry carts? :)

Laura and Nate thanks so much for making the drive up to west LA and thank you for putting your trust in me to take your engagement photos! I can’t wait to have another shot at photographing you on your wedding day (and I can’t wait to see your dress Laura, I’m sure it’s going to be fabulous!). Congratulations and see you very soon!

Laura and Mark have such a cute story I just have to share it with you quickly :) .Laura is actually one of Mark’s sister’s good friends…. which is how they met and now they’re getting married!! How cute is that? I guess I just really relate since my brother is about to marry one of my good friends and I am SO excited about it! Anyhow, they both grew up in Claremont so we decided to do their engagement session in their “home town”. I’d never been to Claremont and boy was I pleasantly surprised! It is a fabulous college town (home to the Claremont colleges) with lots of amazing shops and restaurants, as well as the Santa Ana Botanic Gardens, which is where Laura and Mark are having their wedding. We decided to start out at the gardens just to take a sneak peek around so that I’d know what to expect on the wedding day. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous! I think I may have gone a little overboard on the favorites this round, but we just had so much fun it was impossible to choose :)

So cute! It was quite bright (think glaring afternoon sun) when we were in the gardens but we took some shade under a tree and got some nice backlight. Lovely :)

I don’t know why but I was feeling the square crop on this one.

After the botanic gardens we headed over to the Claremont colleges to scout out a couple of locations…. I do love white walls!

When we found this door we just had to stop for a couple quick shots!

After playing around at the colleges we headed to downtown, which was great because we could just wander around and find so many cute spots to shoot at. Believe it or not I’m not going to show you most of the locations we stopped at because this post would go on forever :) I’ll just tease you with a few choice locations.

I’m not sure why but this is one of my absolute favorites! Aren’t they just SO cute?! :)

And one more for the road just because it has a funny story… to get this shot I was desperately seeking something to stand on but there were no benches to be found so instead I climbed on Ben’s shoulders to get a higher vantage point (thanks Ben :) ) Sometimes you just need to get the right angle!

Laura and Mark thank you so much for convincing me to make the trek out to Claremont, I think it was definitely worth it (even with the marathon weekend traffic!). You two are so great together and you make my job a breeze! I can’t wait for your wedding this summer!

‘Tis the season for engagement photos and I had another on session on Sunday! I’m still editing photos from a couple of other sessions so I won’t get the “full” post for this one up for a few more days but I know how much my couples LOVE seeing their photos on the blog so I thought I’d give Laura and Mark a sneak peek of their session!

This is one of my absolute favorites!

Jennifer & Tim are such a sweet couple! When they contacted me and said they wanted to do a session at the beach, I immediately knew I wanted to go to Santa Monica to take advantage of some of the fun bright walls around the pier, plus the amazing sunset cliff locations. I was so happy that they agreed to have their session near the pier because we ended up getting so many fun looks out of one afternoon and one location! As always after a super fun session I had trouble picking my favorites, but here are a couple of the standouts :)

First up Jennifer looking gorgeous. I think it’s impossible to take a bad photo of this girl ;)

Going for a little walk down the pier, I loved Jennifer’s adorable dress!

jennifertim7

A quick stop to try a couple funky hats :)

Next we headed down to the beach … we had an absolutely gorgeous day with sunny blue skies!

And what’s the fun of a visit to the pier if you don’t make a stop under the pier as well? I loved the look of the light coming in through all of the columns.

Jennifer wanted to make sure that they got some sunset photos as well so once we finished up taking some photos down on the beach we headed up to the park along the cliffs. We had a while to spend before the “official” sunset, which is the best time of day for the warm and glowy light that graces the beaches here every afternoon.

It was a good thing we stuck around because the sunset was gorgeous! I do love a sunset silhouette :)

Jennifer and Tim it was SO great to meet you! Thanks so much for coming out to Santa Monica to meet me, and for waiting so patiently to see your photos while I tackled my crazy weekend ;) . I am so excited for your wedding in May, I’m sure it’s going to be beautiful!

I had a great engagement session this afternoon with Jennifer and Tim! They are such a sweet couple and we had a great time roaming around Santa Monica all afternoon. Jennifer is absolutely adorable and SO excited to see her photos, so I decided to post a little sneak peek this evening for her :) I have a VERY busy weekend coming up with weddings and engagements, so I might not get the rest of these up until Monday (sorry Jennifer!!) so I hope that these three will tide you over until then!
