A lovely Maui Vacation {my life}

We’re home!! I suppose you were probably wondering where I’ve been for the last week. If you’ve emailed or called and left a message – don’t worry!! I’m getting back to everyone as quickly as I can. The fam and I were on a fantastic Hawaiian getaway vacation and I decided to make it a work-free trip. Lovely right?! Hawaii with toddlers is a little bit different than Hawaii as a teenager on a family vacation (think lots of bike rides and hikes) or Hawaii as a young couple (think lots of fruity drinks and drawn out sunset gazes) both of which are quite nice. With toddlers going on vacation is a bit of a marathon. How much can you do/see/experience while still attempting to maintain some semblance of a “schedule” for things like napping, bedtime and eating. I’m pretty impressed with how much we actually managed to do and how much fun we had at the same time. The kids were great on the flight and Ben and I even managed to get away for a date night one night. It was a marvelous trip. Here are a couple of quick vacation snapshots, just in case you need a vacation from your desk. Feel free to imagine yourself on ours.

We went to a goat farm (and learned that our less than 2 year old daughter loves goat cheese)

Went to the aquarium and farmers market and wore lots of cute matching Hawaiian outfits (well at least the twins did, not Ben and I :) )

Watched lots of gorgeous sunsets

Learned to love sunglasses and hats (is Amelia in sunglasses not the cutest thing EVER?!) and spent lots of quality time with family

Of course visited the beach and played in the sand

And did I mention the SUNSETS?! Sigh.

All in all an amazing vacation! I’m feeling refreshed and relaxed and excited to show you more of the gorgeous weddings and portraits yet to be blogged. Stay tuned!

Kris & Heather {Married!}

Kris and Heather had a gorgeous and intimate ceremony on the viewing platform at Point Dume in Malibu. It was an amazing day with blue skies and puffy clouds… perfect day for an outdoor event (good thing they decided to get married before all this June gloom started to set in right?!) Only the closest family and friends were in attendance which made for an amazing and emotional ceremony presided over by celebrant Venus who did a fantastic job as well. After the ceremony we walked around the beach to take a few portraits and then they were off to their reception dinner. Congratulations Kris and Heather, your wedding was beautiful!

The B family in Encinitas

I got an email from Meredith right before Thanksgiving asking if I’d be in San Diego for the holidays. I was SO excited because 1. I LOVE family sessions and I was so excited to meet her and her adorable kiddo and 2. I haven’t been able to do a lot of shooting since the babies were born and I was really excited to get out and do a fun session.
We had a bit of a cloudy day at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, but like I always tell my clients sometimes cloudy is best for photographs. I think that a couple of other families had the same idea (holiday weekend + nice day = time for family photos) because the beach was packed, but we still managed to find an empty patch of sand and get some great family photos.
This has to be one of the happiest smiliest families I’ve ever seen and I had a great time! Thanks so much for a fun morning guys.. here are a few of my favorites :)

Thanks so much to the whole family for a very fun morning! I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!

Sneak Peek: the B family

I had a great family session over the holiday weekend and I cannot wait to post some of their fabulous images! Things are kind of crazy around here… Ben and I are preparing to take the twins on their first flight to my brother’s wedding this weekend and it’s a bit nuts! I probably won’t get the full blog post up from this session until we return but I wanted to do a little sneak peak :)

enjoy!

Erin & Darrin {Engaged!}

I have known Erin for years and years since she is the sister of one of my good friends, and I was SO excited when I found out she was getting married! I was even more excited when I found out that I was going to be able to shoot her wedding for her in April because I know it’s going to be absolutely fabulous! Erin works in the wedding “biz” and has fantastic taste so I know it’s going to be a gorgeous event! Erin and Darrin wanted to take their engagement photos early, before I get super hugely pregnant :) so we met up in downtown Carlsbad (that’s just north of San Diego for you non-local folks) for their session last weekend. We had a great time and they were total naturals in front of the camera! They wanted a couple of photos down by the beach as well so we finished up the afternoon on the sand. These two are so darn cute together that it was hard to pick favorites, but here are a few of the standouts from our time together… enjoy!

This next one is one of my favorites! Love it!

The beach was a bit overcast which can lead to less than spectacular sunsets, but we made do with a bit of added lighting. I actually really like how these turned out!
